Muslims should have a permanent UN Security Council seat: Iran`s advisor

TEHRAN, June 14 (MNA) – A senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader said that Muslim countries should have a permanent representative on the UN Security Council. Velayati, who is the director of the Permanent Secretariat of the World Assembly of the Islamic Awakening, made the remarks during a meeting with a number of Egyptian physicians in Tehran on Wednesday. “The Muslim world has a population of 1.5 billion, but is not present on the international stage in proportion to this population and potential,” he said. “Muslims’ minimum expectation is that they have a permanent representative on the Security Council.” “If Iran and Egypt take great steps after the developments in Egypt, we will witness a growth in the strength of the entire Muslim world… with the help of increased cooperation between the two countries,” he stated. Elsewhere in his remarks, Velayati highlighted the role of Egypt in the Muslim world and said that everything that occurs in Egypt will affect other Muslim and Arab countries. In addition, he said that Iran and Egypt should play key roles to help the Muslim world make progress.
