Myanmar president arrives in Bangkok

BANGKOK, June 14 (TNA) – Myanmar President U Win Myint arrived at the Royal Thai Air Force’s Wing 6 in Don Muang district at about 10am for an official visit. He was set to meet Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House. It is the first official trip to another country in a bilateral framework by Mr U Win Myint as the Myanmar president since he took office in March. The visit to Thailand is aimed at boosting relations between Thailand and Myanmar which celebrate the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak received the delegation of the Myanmar president and led the president to inspect guards of honour. Then the delegation visited the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha before having a plenary session with Gen Prayut at Government House. The prime minister was set to hold a dinner for the Myanmar president’s delegation at Government House on the same day. On June 16, the Myanmar president will attend the 8th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit. The event was expected to adopt the ACMECS’s 2019-2023 master plan and a Bangkok declaration to support regional partnerships and important roles in Southeast Asia. (TNA)
