Myanmar President's visit to Thailand confirmed

BANGKOK, June 1 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday that Myanmar President Thein Sein will visit Thailand from June 4-5 to discuss various areas of bilateral cooperation and preparation for Myanmar to take the chairmanship of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2014. According to the Thai Foreign Ministry announcement, Myanmar President will meet Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra during his stay in Thailand to discuss bilateral cooperation for the development of Myanmar and mutual interest. The Thai and Myanmar leaders are also scheduled to discuss bilateral economic development, the setting up of sustainable development-learning centers along their border, facilities to serve victims of human trafficking and joint anti-narcotic efforts. In addition, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, the Thai prime minister and the visiting Myanmar President will also discuss a road project to link Thailand, Myanmar and India, a road project from Thailand’s Dan Singkorn border pass to Myanmar's Mergui city and a project to build the second bridge across the Moei River. Thailand and Myanmar are also drafting a memorandum of understanding or MOU on their bilateral cooperation, focusing on human resource development and preparation for Myanmar's chairmanship of the ASEAN in 2014.(TNA)
