NACC freezes assets of former DSI chief, his wife

BANGKOK, April 19 (TNA) - The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has issued an order to freeze assets of former chief of Department of Special Investigation (DSI),Tharit Pengdit and his wife. It is believed that he was unusually rich when he was in power. NACC secretary-general Sansern Poljiak told a press conference that the NACC set up a sub-committee in October last year to probe into the case. According to Mr. Sansern, the sub-committee suspected that Mr.Tharit had transferred or hidden a large amount of his assets, so it decided to freeze assets, belonging to him and his wife worth about 40 million baht. The frozen assets include cash deposited with banks, land and houses and vehicles. Mr. Tharit was transferred to an inactive post at the Prime Minister’s Office last May 24, two days after the military seized power following the bloodless coup. (TNA)
