NAM condemns Zionist regime’s acts in Palestine

TEHRAN,June 28(MNA) – The Non-Aligned Movement issued a statement on Thursday condemning the Zionist regime’s recent actions in the occupied territories. The statement followed a meeting by NAM representatives to the UN. The summit was presided by Gholam-Hossein Dehqani, the Iranian deputy permanent representative to the UN. The Palestinian representative to the UN presented a report about the Zionist regime’s recent hostile moves and called on the member states to condemn the actions. Iran currently holds the rotating presidency of the 120-member NAM bloc. Dehqani, who chairs the NAM coordinating committee, some Arab countries’ representatives to the UN and some countries’ representatives to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation met with UN Security Council chief Vitaly Churkin before the meeting. During the meeting they discussed the Zionist regime’s actions and called on the UN Security Council to take urgent measure in this regard. Israel launched a violent campaign against Palestinians after the disappearance of two settlers on June 12. So far eight Palestinians have been killed and hundreds arrested in the West Bank. Among those detained are Palestinian Parliament Speaker Aziz Dweik and Hamas leaders including Hassan Yousef, Wasfi Qabaha, Khaled Abu Arafeh and Mohammed Totah. Also on Friday six Palestinians, including a pregnant woman and an 11-year-old boy, were injured after Israeli tanks fired on homes and mosques in the southern Gaza Strip. A spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf al-Qidra, told AFP that the 11-year-old boy was in serious condition. Israel claims the teenagers went missing in southern West Bank, accusing Hamas of kidnapping them. Hamas has rejected the claim.
