NAM FMs Meet Kicks Off In Tehran

Tehran, Aug 28, IRNA – Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement's foreign ministers started here Tuesday morning to review a draft statement prepared at the experts meeting held in the Iranian capital from August 26-27. The draft statement included major issues such as the fight against imperialism and racism, avoiding occupation and military aggression against NAM states, stressing the need for a world free from nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction and respecting the rights of all world countries to pursue peaceful nuclear energy. The document, ratified by experts of some 120 NAM members, would be reviewed by the foreign ministers meeting and later finalized at the 16th NAM summit which is slated for August 30-31. The summit is to be inaugurated by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During the summit, Iran is to receive NAM's rotating presidency from Egypt for a three-year term./end
