Naryshkin hopeful parliamentary elections in Kyrgystan will conform to legal rules

MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. Speaker of Russia’s State Duma Sergey Naryshkin has said he is confident that the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan due to be held in the autumn will be in tune with all legal regulations. He said as much during a meeting on Tuesday with speaker of Kyrgyz parliament Asylbek Jeenbekov. "I know that there will be an active stage in the parliamentary life in the autumn, you will hold the next parliamentary elections," Naryshkin said. He voiced confidence that "everything would go smoothly" and "in accordance with law, despite the fact that the parliamentary elections are in a sense a trial for the government and for the society as a whole." The Chairman of the lower house of the Russian parliament confirmed that Russian lawmakers were prepared to act as observers in Kyrgyzstan. "If there’s a request from you, we will undoubtedly send a group of observers comprising State Duma members to monitor the elections," he said. "Our lawmakers have always given, and I am sure that they - if they take part in the monitoring process - will provide an unbiased evaluation of the event and its concordance with domestic and international laws. But I’m sure there will be no miscalculations on your part," he added. "We appreciate the level of our cooperation, the joint inter-parliamentary commission works well. We highly appreciate the nature and level of our cooperation on various international parliamentary venues," the Russian lawmaker noted. Naryshkin also thanked Jeenbekov and his fellow countrymen for their active involvement in organizing and holding the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory over Nazism - "common for Russia, for Kyrgyzstan, for all CIS countries and very important for the entire world." "We appreciate the fact that Kyrgyzstan’s President took part in the celebrations in Moscow and that the parade detachment of the country’s armed forces took part in the military parade. It was a great event for both countries, so I’d like to thank you for that," Naryshkin said. Read more
