NATO ignores proposals for cooperation with Russia-led bloc, says CSTO chief

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. NATO continues to ignore proposals for cooperation with counterparts from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the head of the Russia-led military alliance of former Soviet states, said on Monday. "I believe we should have cooperation with NATO and resolve global security problems together. It’s the best thing we can do. We face the same challenges and threats," CSTO Secretary-General Nikolai Bordyuzha told TASS, noting however that it was necessary not to interfere in the conflict in Ukraine. The CSTO, which includes Russia and former Soviet republics of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, has repeatedly called on the West's military alliance to establish contacts and deal together with problems concerning members of both organisations, Bordyuzha said. "Unfortunately, NATO has another position. They do not refuse to cooperate. They just remain silent and do their job sending their instructors to Ukraine and lending moral - and not only moral - support," he said. Bordyuzha said he believed that so long as Ukraine was neither a member of NATO nor a CSTO member, there was no need for sending instructors, experts or other personnel to provide advice and training to Kiev soldiers. The CSTO head is currently on a visit to Minsk where he will meet with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to inform him about the organisation’s activity. Read more
