NCPO doesn’t allow UDD to talk with media on draft Constitution

BANGKOK, September 5 (TNA) -- The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) does not allow the the Red Shirt group to talk to the media on the draft Constitution, citing that the latter’s past behaviours had already created enough negative impact against the NCPO, said a spokesman of the NCPO. The spokesman said NCPO which seized administrative power in Thailand on May 22, 2014 has not so far allowed Red Shirt members officially known as the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) to organise an activity aimed at exchanging opinions with the media on the draft constitution because such activity would only create confusion and ruin plans by the government to build unity among the people in the country. Worse still, allowing the UDD to talk to the media may affect the government’s planned roadmap, said the spokesman. The controversial draft Constitution is scheduled to be voted by members of the National Reform Council (NRC) on Sunday. Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha said on his weekly television programme late Friday that neither his government nor the NCPO would intervene and NRC members are allowed to give a free vote on the draft Constitution. Several UDD members had expressed their political opinions to the media and they were considered negative to the NCPO, the spokesman added. (TNA)
