New EU sanctions on Iran are worthless: Iranian MP

TEHRAN, Dec.4 (MNA) – In today's world international relations are defined as the “equal needs” of all countries to each other and “hence, I believe the recent sanctions of the European Union on Iran are worthless," Iran`s MP Mohammad Karamirad told on Saturday. Commenting on the British government’s threats to mobilize its allies against the Islamic Republic after the Iranian parliament approved a bill to reduce ties with London, Karamirad said Iran will “not tremble at threats of Britain and its allies.” On November 28 Majlis approved a bill to downgrade ties with Britain. The bill was swiftly endorsed by the Guardian Council which supervises the ratifications of the Majlis. The lawmaker said London is angry because the decision by the Iranian parliament has “ruined its reputation in the world”. The MP from the Kermanshah constituency said the parliamentary ratification demonstrated the power of the Islamic Republic of Iran. “We should not be worried that Britain would unite other countries against Iran because it is for long years that they have sanctioned Iran but it has had no effect,” asserted Karamirad who sits on the Majlis Security and Foreign Policy Committee. Months before the adoption of the law to reduce ties with Britain the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee had approved a proposal to lower ties with Britain, however the issue was put on hold and was not raised at the parliament. However, the Majlis decided to lower ties with Britain as London took more hostile moves against Iran. Karamirad said if from the very beginning that the committee approved the proposal for cutting ties with Britain it was endorsed by the Majlis, Britain’s arrogance would not have reached that degree.
