New Iran Envoy To Germany Eyes Boosting Bilateral Ties

Berlin, Sept 30, IRNA - Iran's new Ambassador to Germany Ali Majedi said upgrading Berlin-Tehran relations would be his main priority. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he added that intensifying bilateral ties would focus on all spheres, political, economical and cultural. The former Iranian deputy oil minister for international affairs expressed regret over the fact that unjust western economic sanctions have also overshadowed Iran-Germany relations. In light of the changes over the past year, time has come to resume the good traditional bilateral ties, Majedi said. He warned that if western countries were merely awaiting the outcome of the nuclear talks before actually engaging in an rapprochement with Tehran, they would miss out on good business opportunities in Iran. Both sides in the nuclear negotiation process want an agreement as well as the removal of all sanctions and a return to a normal state of affairs but Iran cannot sit just idle and wait until there is a final result, Majedi reiterated. I am sure Germany's business community is also not satisfied at all with the current situation, the veteran Iranian diplomat added. Majedi urged Germany to play an active role in the nuclear talks to help find a comprehensive agreement which would benefit not only the region abut also the world. Pointing to prospects for economic cooperation between Iran and Germany, Majedi said both countries could cooperate in areas like automaking, aviation, pharmaceuticals and steel industry./end
