New Uranium Resources Identified In Iran : Report

Tehran, Feb 24, IRNA – The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced Saturday that new uranium resources were discovered in the countryˈs northern and southern coastal areas thanks to the relentless efforts of the Iranian nuclear experts. A report by the AEOI said that the newly discovered resources would increase Iranˈs uranium reserves to 4,400 tons compared to the previous 1,527 tons. The report added that the figure has set a new record in the past 35 years. The AEOI stressed that the rise in Iranˈs uranium resources would help the country replace fossil fuel with nuclear power to meet energy demands of the Iranian nation. Meanwhile, 16 new locations for constructing new nuclear power plants were identified in coastal areas of the Persian Gulf, Sea of Oman and Khuzestan province in southern Iran as well as the costal areas of the Caspian Sea in north of the country./end
