Newspaper: Turkish Deputy PM to resign from post

Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 12 By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend: Deputy Prime Minister and spokesman for the Turkish government Bulent Arinc will leave his post as a result of a disagreement on the separation of student dormitories for boys and girls, Turkish newspaper Haberler reported today with reference to government sources. According to the information, another Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag will take this post. Earlier, Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported that the disagreement on separation of student dormitories for boys and girls is being observed between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc at government level. According to the newspaper, the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister made this statement. Arinc said Prime Minister Erdogan must clarify the current situation on this issue. Earlier it was reported that Arinc was commenting on media news. "The information that Erdogan plans to separate the student dormitories for boys and girls is wrong," Arinc said. Afterwards, Erdogan denied Arinc's words. Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a meeting of the ruling coalition that the student dormitories for boys and girls will be separated from each other. The Turkish population disapproves of boys and girls living in co-ed student dormitories in the country, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said earlier. According to Bozdag, the separation of student dormitories for boys and girls shouldn't be perceived as an intervention in personal life. "Currently, the government is not engaged in this issue, but in case of necessity, the student dormitories for boys and girls will be separated," Bozdag said. According to Bozdag, this step doesn't contradict the country's constitution. Turkish human rights activists and the Anatolian women's movement filed a lawsuit against the country's Prime Minister in connection with his statement that student dormitories for boys and girls will be separated from each other.
