Next round of Russia-ASEAN talks to take place in Russia in 2020

MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to hold the next round of talks in the first half of 2020 on Russian territory, the Russian Foreign Ministry informed on Wednesday on the outcomes of the talks between senior diplomats of Russia and ASEAN countries. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov headed the Russian delegation at the meeting held on February 19-20 in Bali, Indonesia. "[The diplomats] have discussed the issues related to the implementation of decisions made at the third Russia-ASEAN summit in November 2018, which secured the strategic nature of the relations between our country and the association. They held a detailed discussion of key areas of Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership, practical aspects of cooperation development in the spheres of economy and infrastructure, energy, information and communication technologies, science, education, emergency response," the ministry informed. The sides exchanged opinions on dealing with common challenges and forming security architecture in the Asia-Pacific Region. They also considered the possibilities of expanding contacts between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and ASEAN in the context of realizing the initiative on forming a major Eurasian partnership, the ministry stressed.
