No objective prerequisites for second edition of Cold War - Lavrov

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. There are no objective prerequisites for the second edition of the Cold War, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday at Russia’s Diplomatic Academy. The Cold War "was based on tough ideological bloc confrontation," Lavrov said. "We don’t have any ideological contradictions now. We profess the same principles both in economy and political organization of the society," the minister noted. "Thus, there are no objective prerequisites for what was called the Cold War, for the second edition of the Cold War," he added. "On the other hand, the ferocity that we see in a number of Western capitals now exceeds the levels seen in the period of the Cold War," the minister stressed. "It is connected with desire of the US and West in general to retain their dominant positions in the global development, and the West has held these positions for the last centuries," Lavrov noted. "Now, when the wheel of development has put new powerful players on the arena - countries with rapidly growing economies, when new powerful financial centers appeared, it became impossible to build the whole world by templates of one of the branches of the Christian civilization," Lavrov concluded.
