North Korea’s delegation to take part in IPU Assembly in St. Petersburg - senator

MOSCOW, October 10. /TASS/. The North Korean delegation will take part in the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) that will be held in St. Petersburg from October 14 to October 18, Head of Russia’s Federation Council (upper house) International Affairs Committee, Konstantin Kosachev, informed TASS on Tuesday. "North Korea is coming, they have confirmed their participation," the senator said. He earlier told TASS that Myanmar, Libya, Kenya and Senegal refused to take part in the assembly. Earlier reports also said that delegations from 21 countries, including North Korea, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, had not been registered for the event. Kosachev stressed that Kiev’s delegation will not come to the assembly, the relevant decision was made by Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament). Georgia has not confirmed its participation yet, the senator added. Earlier reports said that 102 speakers from 94 countries are planning to take part in the 137th IPU Assembly, while 98 speakers and 153 national delegations have been registered for the event. Founded in 1889, the Inter-Parliamentary Union is the oldest and one of the most authoritative and influential international parliamentary organizations and an informal UN parliamentary dimension.
