North Korea confirms readiness to resume high-level talks with South Korea

PYONGYANG, January 20 /TASS/. Ways of independent reunification of the north and south of the Korean peninsula on the basis of principles set forth in the New Year address of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were part of the agenda of a joint meeting of the government, political parties and public organizations held in North Korea on Tuesday. One of the vice-chairmen of the presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea /DPRK/ said that North Korea was ready to resume the interrupted high-level talks with South Korea if Seoul was genuinely interested in improving the relations between the North and South of the Korean peninsula through dialogue. The participants in the meeting urged the United States to review its anachronistic hostile policy towards the DPRK; and not to incite South Korea to confrontation with compatriots from the North. They also urged the sides concerned to refrain from steps capable of leading to the aggravation of the situation on the Korean peninsula and support the DPRK’s positive efforts to improve inter-Korean relations. The participants in the meeting adopted an address to all Koreans who called to react positively to the historical New Year address of Kim Jong-un. The North Korean leader stressed the importance of dialogue and negotiations; exchanges and contacts between the north and south of the Korean peninsula to seek huge changes within the framework inter-Korean relations. According to Kim Jong-un, there are no grounds to refuse from holding a summit meeting if a relevant atmosphere is created for it. He said that the North Korean model of socialist system was the best in the world. “But the DPRK is not imposing it on South Korea and has never made such attempts,” Kim Jong-un said. Read more
