Obama Glad of His Hiroshima Visit

Tokyo, May 31 (Jiji Press)--U.S. President Barack Obama, who made a historic visit to the atomic-bombed city of Hiroshima on Friday, said he had a positive impression about the trip, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry. Obama told aides that he is glad he went to Hiroshima, according to ministry officials who briefed Japanese ruling party lawmakers about the matter on Tuesday. Obama reportedly said that he was deeply impressed that many Japanese citizens gathered to see him off when he left Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the ministry officials said. The president's comments on Hiroshima were conveyed to the ministry from Air Force One when he was heading back to his country, the officials added. Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to set foot in Hiroshima or Nagasaki, both of which were devastated by U.S. atomic bombs in August 1945, in the closing days of World War II. END
