Official: Military Intervention In Bahrain Is Absolutely Wrong

Tehran, March 16, IRNA – Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister in Arab and African countries Affairs said foreign military intervention in Bahrain and continuation of occupation of the country by Saudi Arabia is absolutely wrong. Referring to the first anniversary of military occupation of Bahrain by Saudi Arabia, Hossein Amir-Abdullahian told IRNA on Friday that hasty decision of Saudi Arabia on dispatching military forces to Bahrain 'deprived Manama government of an opportunity of political action'. He added that taking unwise military measure in Bahrain had several undesirable consequences among which were worsening situation in Bahrain and threatening regional security. The senior diplomat went on to say that with military occupation of Bahrain, opportunity for a political and democratic solution was lost and sovereignty of Bahrain was tainted by a neighboring Arab state. Amir-Abdullahian said the third undesirable consequence of the Saudi military action was killing and oppressing Bahraini citizens, either Shia or Sunni Muslims and systematic violation of human rights in the past year in a strong military and security atmosphere governing the country. He stressed that Bahrain went backward for tens of years with this policy while the country was moving successfully in direction of political reforms. The deputy FM continued that solution for Bahrain crisis is political and success in this direction requires serious attention to people's demands, confidence building, stopping massacre and oppression and starting effective negotiation without political hypocrisy./end
