OIC Condenms Attack On Muslims In India’s N-E Assam State

New Delhi, May 10, IRNA -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned the attacks on Muslims in India’s Northeastern state of Assam in which 32 were killed, including women and children. OIC Secretary-General Iyad Ameen Madani has expressed concern at local media reports of hundreds of Muslim villagers fleeing their homes with belongings on pushcarts as a result of the violence, the TwoCricles.net reported. He said that these attacks are criminal acts of brutality against innocent civilians. Madani has urged the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and supported their efforts to bring the rule of law to the areas affected by violence. Police arrested 22 people after authorities called in the army and imposed an indefinite curfew. 32 people were killed, several others injured and thousands rendered homeless in two districts of Assam after attacks by militants belong to the anti-talks IK Songbijit faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-S). The death toll in the violence had risen to 43 on Thursday as more and more dead bodies were being unearthed in different areas of the strife-torn BTAD./end
