OIC secretary general says Pakistan's UNESCO membership, great success

ISTANBUL (A.A) - November 1, 2011 - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) secretary general said on Tuesday that Palestine's being a member of the UNESCO was a great success for the world and Palestinian people. OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu delivered a speech at Istanbul Forum held at Conrad Hotel in Istanbul. Replying to questions after his speech, Ihsanoglu said that UNESCO's General Conference admitted Palestine as UNESCO Member State in Paris on Monday, which was a historic decision and a great success. Answering a question on developments in Syria, Ihsanoglu said that they felt uneasy about the current situation in Syria, and there were clashes between Syrian citizens and troops causing a great loss of lives. Ihsanoglu said they hoped that necessary steps would be taken in Syria and a constructive dialogue would be held with the opposition in Syria.
