Oman, not a mediator in N-talks: Iran Daily

Tehran, Nov 12 IRNA - 'Iran Daily' on Wednesday commenting on the trilateral talks in the Omani capital, Muscat, among Iran-US-EU officials, underscored that Oman is not a mediator in the n-talks. Just like other countries where negotiations have taken place, Oman is only hosting the meeting among Iran and other parties involved in the nuclear talks, pointed out the daily in its Opinion column (pg 3) rejecting claims of some people who are trying to imply that Oman is serving as a go-between. This is totally wrong because Iran-US have already held direct talks for hours in several other countries at the ministerial level, highlighted the paper. Top diplomats from Iran, the US and the European Union held talks on Tehran’s nuclear energy program in the Omani capital, Muscat. The trilateral negotiations come as the November 24 deadline, set for reaching a comprehensive agreement, is approaching. During the course of the talks, Iran has always stressed that it will never back down from its inalienable nuclear rights and has taken practical steps to clarify ambiguities regarding its atomic activities. Now it is the turn of the West. If the P5+1, the US in particular, insists on its unreasonable demands, nuclear talks will collapse since Iran will never give up its rights. Negotiators in Oman may be able to settle their disagreements as much as possible so as to pave the way for a final deal as the deadline looms. But there are also possibilities that nuclear talks will fail to bear any result just like the previous rounds, concluded the paper. *Boroujerdi serves as chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee./end
