OPCW's Chief Sympathizes With Survivors Of Iran's Fatal Twin Quakes

Berlin, Aug 16, IRNA - Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Ahmet Uzumcu offered his condolences to the people and government of Iran Thursday for the twin devastating quakes which hit northwest of the country on August 11. The fatal earthquakes measuring 6.4 and 6.3, respectively, hit Iran's East Azarbaijan province leaving 306 dead and thousands of injured. In a message to Iran's ambassador to the Hague, the OPCW's chief offered his deepest and heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the survivors of the tragic incident. The OPCW is located in the Hague, Netherlands. The organization promotes and verifies the adherence to the Chemical Weapons Convention which prohibits the use of chemical weapons and requires their destruction./end
