Over 450 Foreign Journalists Cover Iranˈs 11th Presidential Election

Tehran, June 15, IRNA – Over 450 journalists from 200 foreign press and media are covering Iranˈs 11th presidential election across the country, an Iranian media official said here Friday. Speaking to IRNA, Caretaker of Foreign Press of Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Nasser Haqiqat said that foreign journalists arrived in Iran last week to cover the elections. Haqiqat underlined that if the presidential election go to the run-off, the foreign journalists would stay another week in the country. Iranˈs 11th presidential election as well as the fourth city and rural council election started in some 60,000 polling stations throughout the country. Some 51 million Iranians are eligible to take part in the presidential election. The six candidates running in Iran’s presidential election are President of the Expediency Council’s Center for Strategic Research Hassan Rohani, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former telecommunications minister Mohammad Gharazi. Former Majlis speaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel and former First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref withdrew their candidacies earlier this week./end
