Over two tons of illegal drugs confiscated in Persian Gulf

HORMOZGAN PROVINCE, Iran, July 29 (MNA) - Hormozgan coast guards and anti-drug police forces confiscated over two tons of illegal drugs in the Persian Gulf on Friday. Colonel Habibollah Mardanpour said, “In line with fighting drug traffickers and merchants of death, Hormozgan coast guards along with anti-drug police were able to seize a boat in a joint operation yesterday (Friday).” Mardanpour added that after transferring the fishing boat to Bandar-e-Jask pier office, 2044 kilograms of opium, which had been well hidden, were discovered. In the operation the captain and eight sailors were arrested, he said. The colonel said the fishing boat belonged to a Pakistani national who, in order to mislead officers, used a Chabahar registration number. According to Mardanpour, the boat started its voyage at the Pakistani Gwadar Fish Harbor, where its load was to be passed to speed boats for transfer to the cities of Minab and Bandar Abbas and from there it was set to go to Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates.
