Overthrow of regime in Damascus would be crude violation of international law-Lavrov

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. The overthrow of the ruling regime in Damascus would be crude violation of international law, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday. "The overthrow of the ruling regime in Damascus would be crude violation of the UN Security Council’s resolution that approved the Geneva communique on June 30, 2010. This communique implies exclusively peaceful, political and diplomatic settlement of the Syrian crisis," Lavrov said. "Therefore the statements being heard from some capitals these days to the effect that if the events proceed along the current path, issues will have to be addressed by military means are nothing but calls for violation of international law," Lavrov said.
