Pakistan Denies Selling Arms To S.Arabia For Syrian Rebels

Islamabad, Feb 25, IRNA - Pakistan has rejected reports as baseless that Saudi Arabia has shown interest to buy Pakistani arms for Syrian rebels. Western media has earlier reported that Pakistan will sold anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles and rockets to the Kingdom under understanding between the two countries. The Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tasnim Aslam on Monday termed the reports as ˈunfounded.ˈ She told western media that there is no reality in the reports and that section of the media runs such concocted news. The AFP had reported on Sunday that Saudi Arabia has decided to supply weapons to Syrian rebels and has discussed the issue with Pakistan. According to the report Saudi Arabia has shown interest to buy anti-aircraft Anza missiles, which would be delivered to the rebels via Jordan. Anza (Lance) is a series of shoulder-fired, man-portable surface-to-air missiles produced by Pakistan, according to defense officials. The report said that Pakistan army chief, General Raheel Sharif, in his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and Saudi Crown Prince had discussed the issue during his Pakistan visit last week. Earlier western media report had claimed that Saudi Arabia has invested in Pakistanˈs nuclear program and it can receive weapons anytime. Pakistan had rejected the report as malicious./end
