Pakistan MP Flays US-engineered Sanctions On Iran

Islamabad, Oct 17, IRNA – A Pakistani lawmaker on Tuesday said that US-engineered sanctions against Iran are useless and unjustified. Talking to IRNA, Member of the National Assembly belonging to Pakistan Muslim League (PML)-Nawaz, Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir categorically said that sanctions cannot isolate Iran from the world community. He was of the view that sanctions have proved a futile exercise and have made Iran self sufficient in every field. Washington and its western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. “Imposing sanctions on Iran is unjustified,” viewed Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir. “Iran is like a second home to Pakistanis and sanctions on Iran are actually sanctions on Pakistan,” he went on to say. The lawmaker expressing his views said that the only problem to US with Iran is that the country is not yielding to their pressure. “US must respect Iran’s sovereignty,” he demanded. The PML-N leader praised steadfastness of people and government of Iran in resisting the western pressure. “Today Iran is progressing in all fields,” he added. Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir strongly believed that sanctions cannot weaken Islamic Republic. The Parliamentarian was of the view that West should stop following biased policies towards Islamic Republic. The legislator to a question said that the sanctions on Iranian oil will hit those countries which are dependent on Iranian oil. The politician expressing his views said that Iran is a brave nation and would not yield to the pressure of West. Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir said that western countries have to change their approach towards Iran. “Policies of coercion always produce adverse results,” he added. The PML-N leader said that Iran has never compromised on principles, that is why the country has become a symbol of resistance. The political leader noted that Iran holds a major position in the world and Islamic world and definitely can play a vital role after becoming the president of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)./end
