Pakistan MP Lashes Out At US For Denying Visa To Iran Proposed UN Envoy

Islamabad, April 15, IRNA - Pakistani Member of Parliament (MP) on Monday strongly condemned Washington’s decision to deny visa to Tehran’s proposed UN envoy. Talking to IRNA Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said that the decision is against all international norms and is a sheer violation of UN charter. He said that under an agreement, the US is bound to issue visas to foreign envoys to the United Nations. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham has announced that Iran plans to file a lawsuit against the US government for blocking the Islamic Republic’s choice of its mission at the UN, Hamid Aboutalebi. Meanwhile, the US Senate on April 7 and its Congress on April 10 passed a law which barred the entry of Aboutalebi to New York. Senator Mashhadi said the US decision is against all diplomatic norms. “This decision also lacks moral justification,” noted the legislator. He added that denial of visa to Iran’s envoy shows that the UN is not an independent organization and works under the American supervision. The political leader said that US has no right to refuse visa to the UN envoys of any world state. He said that the US decision has been condemned across the globe since it is unfair. He stressed that Iran is a democratic country and should be treated with respect and dignity. The MP said that if US does not respect rights of the UN member states then the headquarters of the UN must be shifted to another state so that all world countries may be treated on an equal basis./end
