Pakistani Journalist Slams Sanctions Against Iran

Islamabad, Oct 10, IRNA – A senior Pakistani journalist on Tuesday termed western embargoes against Iran as unjustified and illegal adding that the Islamic Republic cannot be isolated by such moves. Talking to IRNA Asma Shirazi said that the sanctions imposed on Iran have failed to produce the desired results. Asma Shirazi said that many countries of the world including Pakistan respect Iranian stance over their peaceful nuclear program and consider western embargoes against Tehran as unjustified and illegal. The analyst opined that the supporters of capitalism are against Iran's progress. “The world has turned into a global village and the countries cannot be isolated by sanctions,” noted the journalist. “I strongly condemn unilateral sanctions on Iran,” said Asma Shirazi. She said that if US and western states can develop nuclear weapons then there is no reason left to stop Iran from developing peaceful nuclear program. “Today Iran is developing in all sectors despite western curbs,” the journalist added. The analyst said that sanctions have united the people of Iran. “I am confident that Iran will continue to develop their peaceful nuclear program despite western pressures,” she said. The journalist added that Iran is a responsible country and has always followed the path of dialog to resolve issues. Asma Shirazi said that Iran is a major country strategically and geographically. “Yes many countries in the world want to develop strong relations with Iran,” she said to a question. Expressing her views the journalist said that Iran can play a major role in overcoming the energy crisis in Pakistan. She stressed the need for early completion of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project. Asma Shirazi called upon the Muslim states to unite against the conspiracies of West. “Unfortunately some Muslim countries are forwarding western agendas,” opined the journalist. Asma Shirazi is a senior journalist associated with the electronic media for over 14 years. Shirazi has the distinction of covering the Lebanon war from the war front.
