Pakistani Media Give Wide Coverage To Ahmadinejad’s UN Speech

Islamabad, Sept 26, IRNA -- Almost all major Pakistani newspapers on Tuesday exclusively reported the speech of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at United Nations General Assembly. Daily ‘The News’ reported that Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called Zionist regime a nuclear-armed “fake regime” shielded by the United States. The report said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also accused the U.S. and others of misusing freedom of speech and failing to speak out against the defamation of people’s beliefs and “divine prophets,” an apparent reference to the recently circulated video made in the U.S. which attacks Islam and denigrates the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Daily ‘Dawn’ reported that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has asserted that the project to enrich uranium was only for peaceful purposes. It said that Iranian President denounced the anti-Islam film, which has provoked anger in the Muslim world. ‘The Nation’ said that Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has attacked Western powers for misusing their UN veto power. “The discriminatory privilege of the veto right enjoyed by some members of the Security Council lacks legitimacy,” he declared, speaking at UN headquarters in New York. ‘Express Tribune’ said that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad slammed Western powers at UN debate. “They themselves wrongly invoke the UN charter and misuse freedom of speech to justify their silence towards offending the sanctity of human communities and to divine prophets,” the daily quoted him as saying. ‘Daily Times’ said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that Zionist regime has “no roots” in the history of the Middle East and would be eliminated. Ahmadinejad also addressed the issue of a California-made anti-Islam video that has sparked anti-American protests around the Muslim world. Urdu newspapers Nawa-i-waqt, Jang, Express and Jinnah have also reported the speech of the Iranian President./end
