Pakistani Parliament Condemns Church Attack

Islamabad, Sept 24, IRNA – Pakistani parliament has passed a unanimous resolution strongly condemning the heinous and inhuman attack on church in Peshawar in which more than 81 innocent people lost their lives and 137 others injured. The resolution was moved by Law Minister Zahid Hamid which said the attack was not only against Christians but against all Pakistanis. It expressed solidarity with the Christian community and sympathized with the bereaved families of the victims and prayed for early recovery of the injured. The resolution demanded the government in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to take all necessary measures to safeguard the rights of the non-Muslims and take steps to bring the perpetrators of this incident to justice. Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said it was not an attack on any community or group‚ it was an attack on Pakistanis. An opposition member Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said his party will stand with the nation to curb terrorism in the country. Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamaat-e-Islami urged the government to start dialogue with Taliban as soon as possible. Pashtoon nationalist leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai said the country stands at dangerous crossroad and the lawmakers have to restructure the society to protect it. Former PM Zafarullah Khan Jamali also condemned the church tragedy Monday./end
