Pakistani Taliban Claims Responsibility For Attacking Shia Muslims

Islamabad, Feb 6, IRNA - A splinter group of Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for a recent suicide attack in Peshawar city that had killed nine and injured 40 more, mostly Shiites. The main Tehrik-e-Taliban had denied any involvement in the Tuesday evening suicide attack on a hotel however a Taliban local leader said his group had carried out the attack. The Taliban leader Mufti Hassan Swati has told reporters that the bombing had been carried out to avenge an attack on a seminary in Rawalpindi in November. He said the attack on the hotel, mostly used by visitors from Parachinar, was part of revenge attacks that included the killing of Tehreek Nifaz Fiqah-i-Jafria Pakistan leader Ali Asghar and a bank manager from a particular sect in different parts of Peshawar. “The attacks were carried out to fulfill the wish of our central deputy emir Shaikh Khalid Haqqani to avenge the death of innocent students in Rawalpindi,” Hassan said. Meanwhile unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in North Waziristan tribal region, killing a Taliban commander and his bodyguards, officials said Thursday. Those killed in the attack were identified by locals as Shafiq, a Taliban commander, and his three guards, according to the security sources./end
