Pakistan's National Assembly Condemns Killings In Egypt

Islamabad, Aug 17, IRNA – Pakistani parliament unanimously passed a resolution‚ condemning the killing of civilians in Egypt in a crackdown on supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi. Reports say that at least 421 people died when security forces stormed supporters of the ousted Morsi in Cairo on Wednesday. An opposition lawmaker from Jamaat-e-Islami party, Sahibzada Tariqullah in the National Assembly, expressed grave dismay and concern over the violence in Egypt killing an injuring a large number of people. The resolution urged the Egyptian government to show restraint and resolve the issue through constitutional‚ legal and political means by adhering to dialogue so that democracy can be restored soon in accordance with the wishes of the people. The resolution called upon the Pakistani government to convey grave concerns of the parliament and the people of Pakistani over the killings of civilians. Several members condemned the crackdown on civilians and called for an end to the use of force against civilians. Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, expressed concerns over recent incidents in Egypt, saying this is an era of democracy and violations of human rights and massacre of people cannot be allowed. Pakistani Foreign Ministry also expressed serious concerns at the use of force against peaceful demonstrators which resulted in killing of hundreds of people. “The Government of Pakistan expresses its dismay and deep concern over the use of force by the Egyptian security forces against unarmed civilians which resulted in loss of innocent lives in Cairo and other cities,” the Foreign Ministry said./end
