Palestine appreciates Moscow’s proposal for meeting between Abbas, Netanyahu - PLO

MOSCOW, January 13. /TASS/. Palestine appreciates Moscow’s readiness to host a meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Saeb Erekat, Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization, said at a press conference on Friday. "We appreciate Russia’s proposal to hold the meeting in Moscow," he said. "We can see that Russia has been doing everything possible to build bridges between us." In September 2016, Russia proposed that talks between Abbas and Netanyahu be held in Moscow, however, such talks haven’t been agreed on yet. On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a meeting with Saeb Erekat that the invitation still stood. Erekat, in turn, said that Abbas was ready to take advantage of the invitation. Palestine stated earlier that such meeting, if agreed on, should be held in Moscow. During his meeting with Erekat, Lavrov also emphasized the need to resume direct talks between Palestine and Israel. The Russian top diplomat added that Moscow was ready to facilitate such negotiations in every possible way. Read more
