Palestine Authority chief: Middle East should be free of WMDs

Tehran, Aug 30, IRNA – Palestinian Self-Rule Authority chief Mahmud Abbas said on Thursday the Middle East should be free of nuclear arms and weapons of mass destruction. Abbas told the 16th NAM Summit of Leaders that that the Summit was held in Tehran at a historical juncture and when the region witnessed many developments. It can be a good opportunity to offer suitable strategies for regional problems, he added. He said NAM's concern about Palestine problem shows the Movement’s basic principles and its serious resolve to fight occupation, racism and tyranny. Palestine considers NAM with trust, said Abbas, hoping that the Movement would continue with efforts for official recognition of Palestine at the UN.
