Parliament Speaker: Diplomacy Needed To Resolve Regional Crises

Tehran, Sept 30, IRNA – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani stressed here Sunday the need for resorting to diplomatic ways aimed at resolving the existing crises in regional countries. He made the remarks in a meeting with Secretary General of Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) member states Mahmud Erol Kilic in Tehran. Kilic, for his part, said that the union has been established with the purpose of strengthening unity and solidarity among Muslim countries and lauded the constant Majlis support for the body. Larijani and Kilic exchanged views on the leading developments in the Muslim world. The Parliamentary Union of the OIC member states is consisted of the parliaments of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states. It was founded in Iran on 17 June 1999, with its head office situated in Tehran. Larijani also said that the time for remaining silent observers in the world is over and active participation in seeking diplomatic ways to resolve the regional counties is a necessity today. The Secretary General of PUIC resented a report on the activities of his affiliated union’s secretariat during the meeting and said that the objective behind its establishment of the parliamentary body was strengthening and fortifying Islamic unity and solidarity. Erol Kilic meanwhile appreciated the constant support of the Islamic Iranian Parliament for the PUIC. The two sides also exchanged onion on the time and place of holding the 9th Conference of the PUIC Parliament Speakers./end
