PDI-P Wants To Build Strong Presidential System

Jakarta, March 21 (Antara) - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) wants to build a strong presidential system to make the government run effectively, according to a party official. "Having learned from the failure of the Democratic Party`s coalition government, the parties that will coalesce with PDI-P should strengthen presidential system with one accord," the party`s Deputy Secretary General Achmad Basarah stated here on Friday. He added that the Democratic Party`s style of coalition government based its decision on securing the power among political parties` coalition. But according to him, the cooperation in the government should be oriented to Pancasila ideology for the people`s welfare. Achmad opined that the more political parties will coalesce to build the nation, the more effective will the government be. "However, if the political parties coalition is merely oriented toward power, PDI-P will be more selective," he noted. Furthermore, he explained that PDI-P respects the desire of some political parties such as National Awakening Party (PKB) and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) to coalesce with PDI-P in the upcoming elections. "PDI-P is open for cooperation with other political parties so long as they accept the fundamental requirements to cooperate with us. But it will depend on the result of legislative elections and the formal attitude of PDI-P," he explained.
