Peace Activist Condemns New York Police Violation Of Muslim Citizens’ Rights

New York, March 26, IRNA – An American peace activist condemned violation of rights of New York Muslim citizens by the police. James Hougland who is a member of the New York Peace Center told IRNA that the police program of spying on Muslims and mosques has left a negative impact on the activities of the Muslim minority and its religious freedom, resulting in creation of an atmosphere of distrust among them. Commenting on a recent report on the behavior of the New York police towards the Muslim community, he said it proved that the treatment of Muslims by the New York police was totally unacceptable and it rang the bell for not only the Muslim community but for all those Americans who are concerned with the civilian rights of the US citizens as well as their religious freedom. He pointed to a secret program being carried out by the New York police to spy on the Muslim minority since 2002 and said that different methods are used for this purpose./end
