Peace forum announces 2016 as year for countering terrorism and extremism

ABU DHABI, 13th December 2015 (WAM) - Under the patronage of Foreign Minister H.H. sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the board of trustees of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, held its inaugural meeting in Abu Dhabi yesterday under the chairmanship of Sheikh Abdallah bin Bayyah. Sheikh Abdallah bin Bayyah said the forum will soon publish the 'Peace Encyclopaedia' which will be the first in the Islamic history to tackle peace as a key topic and to highlight the important role played by women in promoting the culture of peace. Also discussed were preparations for the upcoming conference on the protection of minorities in Islamic countries, which will be held on 25-27 January in Marrakech under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco. Sheikh bin Bayyah also said the meeting was aimed at rallying efforts to "declare war on war and to promote peace for peace.", and to announce 2016 as the year for countering terrorism and extremism.
