Peace negotiation is successful: Chief negotiator

BANGKOK, August 28 (TNA) -- Southern peace negotiation resumes successfully as insurgency groups show up and cooperate with authorities during Muslims' Ramadan month of fasting, said Gen Aksara Kerdpol, chief advisor to the army and the Thai chief negotiator in southern peace talks. He met representatives of southern insurgency movements in Malaysia on Aug 25 and said that Thai authorities have proposed setting up of safe zones, local areas development and fair treatment to them. Insurgency representatives also tabled their proposals, requesting for the clarification on the continuation of peace negotiation and questions about security policies of Thailand during 2015-2021. He said the details of the talks would be submitted to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha. He denied his negotiation team had any involvement with the recent press conference of the Mara Patani umbrella group of southern insurgency movements in Kuala Lumpur. (TNA)
