Peace negotiations on Yemen to take place in Kuwait on April 18 - Russian ambassador

MOSCOW, April 14 /TASS/. Negotiations on a peaceful settlement in Yemen will take place in Kuwait on April 18, Russian Ambassador to Sana’a Vladimir Dedushkin told TASS on Thursday. "Despite some violations of the cessation of hostilities regime, the date for resuming the talks remains unchanged - April 18. The UN-mediated talks will take place in Kuwait," Dedushkin said. A ceasefire has been in effect in Yemen as of April 11. UN Special Envoy on Yemen Ismail Uld Sheikh Ahmed will mediate the peace negotiations between the Yemeni government and the rebels. An armed conflict between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and the Houthi insurgents who support the Ansar Allah movement flared up in Yemen in August 2014. In January 2015, the Houthis took the Yemeni capital of Sana’a forcing the president to flee the country. On March 26, 2015, Saudi Arabia launched a military operation against the Houthi insurgency at the Yemeni president’s request. The Air Forces of Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates joined the Saudi-led operation. Read more
