People voted for Prokhorov solely as a new person

Kazakhstan, Astana, March 5 / Trend D.Mukhtarov / People voted for presidential candidate Mikhail Prokhorov mainly as a new person, chairman of the Russian Public Policy Foundation Alexey Trubetskoy believes. "People voted for him (Prokhorov) as a new person and nothing more. If the Communist Party instead of Zyuganov had been represented by a young man, people would have voted for that new person," Trubetskoy said on Monday during a press marathon entitled "2012 Election: public discussion of the results of the Russian Federation's presidential elections". He added neither small nor big business supported Prokhorov. "Prokhorov said nothing new besides his being a successful businessman. This was of no help as the business community did not give support. Big business knows him well and it is unpleasant knowledge with small firms fearing that Prokhorov's business will swallow them," said Trubetskoy. On Sunday, March 4, presidential elections were held in Russia. According to the CEC, after handling 99.3 per cent of the ballot papers, Putin secured 63.75 per cent of the votes, Gennady Zyuganov - 17.19 per cent, Mikhail Prokhorov - 7.82 per cent. Vladimir Zhirinovsky secures 6.23 per cent and Sergei Mironov - 3.85 percent. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
