PM chairs Defense Council meeting for first time

BANGKOK, July 26 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who is also the country's first female Defence Minister, chaired the Defence Council Meeting for the first time since she recently took concurrent office at the defence portfolio on Friday morning. At the meeting, attended by Deputy Defence Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapha, armed forces chiefs and other concerned authorities, Premier Yingluck presented her policies to the participating authorities. The prime minister was also briefed on military intelligence updates, latest developments in the violence-plagued Thai far South and the Royal Thai Armed Forces' performance over the past one month. Main agenda of Friday's Defence Council Meeting was focused on the military's implementation and support of royal projects and measures to take care of the public both in the normal situation and in emergency caused by disasters or incidents.
