PM is statisfied with Thailand’s corruption perception index in 2015

BANGKOK, Feb 6 (TNA) -- Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has expressed satisfaction after learning that the Corruption Perceptions Index released by Transparency International, a global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption, has ranked Thailand 76th place in 2015, nine positions better than before, said a government spokesman on Saturday. Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Gen Prayut was satisfied after being informed that the kingdom was last year ranked third among member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations after Singapore and Malaysia in terms of transparency. But Thailand scored only 38, still below 50, on a scale from 0 (perceived to be highly corrupt) to 100 (perceived to be very clean). However, the prime minister wants Thailand to be more transparent after his government is serious in tackling against corruption, said Maj Gen Sansern. The CPI released by Transparency International is in line with a survey conducted by Bangkok’s University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce released last June, saying that corruption situation in Thailand in 2015 had improved when compared to the past six years, said Maj Gen Sansern. He said the government has made corruption suppression as the “national agenda” and has received cooperation from every concerned party. (TNA)
