PM urges Thais to be on alert after attacks in Paris

BANGKOK, Nov 14 (TNA) -- Urging the public to avoid criticising Friday’s "terror" attacks in Paris, Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha asked the public to avoid criticising the shocking incidents and to stay on alert. Gen Prayut’s request was made after Bangkok was hit by a bomb blast almost three months ago which killed 20 people, mostly foreigners, in front of Hindu Erawan shrine at Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong intersection. "Don’t express opinions or make any criticisms because the French people are now in grievances," said Gen. Prayut. Thai people ought to increase alertness but not to overreact because it could impact our tourism industry. Deputy government spokesman Major General Veerachon Sukhontapatipak, meanwhile, said that the Thai government is monitoring the situation in France closely while there is no “irregularity” occured in Thailand. Maj Gen Veerachon said the prime minister had ordered every government agency to “stay on alert” and to help provide security to important buildings and people like they used to do in the past. Thailand is friendly with every country while the government is adhere to upholding peace and willing to cooperate with other countries in opposing terrorism acts, said Maj Gen Veerachon. The Thai government wishes to offer its morale support to the French government and its people to overcome the crisis soon, Maj Gen Veerachon added.(TNA)
