Polls: Pol Gen Pongsapat wins Bangkok Governor Post

BANGKOK, March 3 (TNA) - Pol. Gen. Pongsapat Pongcharoen, who contested under the ruling Pheu Thai Party on Sunday won Bangkok governorship post following election held earlier in the day, according to exit polls. Altogether 25 candidates contested in the gubernatorial election. Pol. Gen. Pongsapat won a narrow margin over his arch rival former Bangkok governor Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand Paribatra, according to the exit polls. According to the exit poll conducted by Bangkok University, Pol. Gen. Pongsapat scored 44.14 per cent out of the total votes while Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand received 41.07 per cent. Suan Sunanta University’s exit poll said Pol. Gen. Pongsapat scored 43.88 per cent while the Democrat Party candidate earned 39.57 per cent. The TV Pool exit poll said the police officer scored 40.02 per cent and Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand received 38.54 per cent. Independent candidate ex-national police chief Pol. Gen. Seripisut Temiyavej received 6.94, 9.08 and 7.14 per cent from exit polls conducted respectively by Bangkok University, Suan Sunanta University and the TV Pool. Suharit Siamwalla received 2.81, 2.13 and 3.19 per cent from exit polls conducted by the three institutions respectively. Kosit Suvinitjit, also an independent candidate, earned 2.43, 1.98 and 2.50 from the three respective institutions. (TNA)
