Positions of Sextet and Iran significantly closer at talks on Tehran’s nuclear program - Lavrov

MOSCOW, March 30. /TASS/. Principles of gradualism and reciprocity proposed by Russia have played a key role in bringing closer the positions of the Sextet and Iran, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday after Sergey Lavrov held talks with foreign ministers of UK, Germany, China, US and France and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini. "An intensive and substantive discussion has been held on the current state of affairs at talks on the Iranian nuclear program," the foreign ministry said. "A substantial progress has been reached at talks between the Sextet and Iran. The sides discussed in detail the possible options of acceptable compromise solutions on remaining issues," it added. "Lavrov noted with satisfaction that the sides managed to bring considerably closer their positions on all remaining issues," the Russian diplomatic agency said. "The principles of gradualism and reciprocity proposed by Russia played a key role and became the basis for dialogue, along with a number of Russian conceptual, political and technical ideas and proposals, which were considered in the course of talks," the foreign ministry said. Lavrov "expressed confidence that an agreement can be reached if there is political will," the ministry added. The foreign minister called for "continuing intensive negotiations at political and expert levels in the interests of settling the issue," it added. Read more
