Prabowo Casts Vote Along With Son In Bogor

Jakarta, July 9 (Antara) - The presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his son, Didiet Prasetyo, have cast their votes at the polling station (TPS) number 2, Bojong Koneng, Bogor District, West Java, on Wednesday. "We hope that the presidential election will run smoothly, safely, and peacefully, and there will be no irregularities or intimidation," Prabowo Subianto notified the press. "The Indonesian people are seeking their next leader, so be happy, whoever is elected properly," he stated. Wearing a white shirt, Prabowo arrived at the polling station at 10:17 a.m. local time, to register himself on the polling day. He was greeted by several people who wanted to shake hands with him. Some 713 eligible voters were expected to turn up at the TPS number 2 in Bojong Koneng. Voters gathered at the TPS and formed a long queue. Indonesians thronged polling stations across the country to cast their votes for the presidential election on Wednesday, which commenced at 7 a.m. local time. According to the KPU, a total of 190,307,134 eligible voters have been registered for the presidential election on July 9, 2014, with 486,866 polling stations set up across the archipelago. The total number of eligible voters included 2,038,711 overseas voters who cast their votes three to four days ahead of the nationwide polling day. The presidential election is being contested by two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates, Prabowo Subianto with Hatta Rajasa as his running mate, and Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who pairs with Jusuf Kalla (JK). The winning pair will be officially inaugurated as the country`s seventh president and vice president in October 2014. Prabowo Subianto is a retired military general and the founder of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), while his running mate, Hatta Rajasa, is a former coordinating minister for economic affairs and the chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN). Jokowi is Jakarta`s governor and a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), while his running mate, JK, is a former vice president and a senior politician of the Golkar Party.
