Prabowo To Hold Press Conference On Court's Verdict

Jakarta, Aug 21 (Antara) - Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto will hold a press conference following the ruling on the election dispute expected to be announced by the Constitutional Court (MK) here on Thursday. "The Red and White Coalition (formed by Prabowo Subianto and supported by his running pair Hatta Rajasa and chairpersons of other political parties joining the Coalition) will hold a press conference to respond to the planned MK`s verdict," Budi Purnomo Karjodihardjo, spokesperson of the Media Center of the Red and White Coalition, said in a press statement here on Thursday. The press conference will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta, immediately after the verdict is announced. The Constitutional Court`s final session is currently underway. Prabowo Subianto had challenged the results of the presidential election announced by the General Election Commission (KPU) last July 2014. The commission announced in Jakarta on July 22, 2014 that Jokowi and his running mate, Jusuf Kalla, won 70,997,833 votes, or 53.15 percent of the total 133,574,277 valid votes, while their rivals, Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa, secured 62,576,444 votes, or 46.85 percent. The valid votes account for about 70.19 percent of the 190,307,134 registered eligible voters, a slight decrease from 71.7 percent of voter turnout in the presidential election in 2009, and from 75.11 percent of the turnout in the legislative elections held on April 9, 2014, KPU Commissioner Sigit Pamungkas said in Jakarta on July 23, 2014. Prabowo rejected the election results, claiming the election was marred by massive cheating and fraud.
